LAX’s $3.3B SkyLink train is 99% done and still empty

The people mover at LAX is basically built. Empty cars are already running test trips on the elevated track. Passengers still can’t ride it. It was supposed to open years ago, then become a World Cup flex. Missed that. Fitch already cut the contractor’s bonds deeper into junk. There’s a lender longstop on Oct. 8 and a project longstop on Dec. 8. Miss those and you’re looking at technical-default territory.


The builder (LINXS) sued the city in July saying LAWA hid delays and racked up change orders. Airport says the claim has no merit. Original price was about $1.9B. It’s around $3.3B now.


Until it opens, Metro riders still dump at the Westchester transit center and take a shuttle into the terminals. Airport workers and travelers stay stuck in the central loop traffic.

  Metro sets more I-105 Express Lanes full closures near Downey and Norwalk LOS ANGELES- Metro plans six of directional full freeway closures on the 105fwy Between the 710fwy and 605fwy starting Sept 17th , as crews begin Segment 3 Express Lanes work toward Studebaker Road near Norwalk, According to a Metro project notice. Segment 3 construction between the 710 and Studebaker Road is expected to finish in 2029 Metro said. LAX service worker and Lennox man charged after fentanyl found in airport bathroom

By The Southbound 105 LOS ANGELES — An employee of a service provider at Los Angeles International Airport and another Lennox resident have been charged in a federal criminal complaint with possessing about 11 kilograms (24.3 pounds) of fentanyl found in an airport bathroom and intended for transport on a Minnesota-bound flight, Argonaut News reported, citing a Justice Department announcement. Miguel Angel Tuz-Noh, 24, of Lennox, who works at LAX, and Anthony Olvera, 23, also of Lennox, are charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, according to Argonaut News. Both defendants were arrested Aug. 19 and made their initial appearances Aug. 21 in U.S. District Court in downtown Los Angeles, the newspaper reported. A federal magistrate judge ordered each released on $10,000 bond. Their arraignments are scheduled for Sept. 17, according to Argonaut News.
