 Metro sets more I-105 Express Lanes full closures near Downey and Norwalk





LOS ANGELES- Metro plans six of directional full freeway closures on the 105fwy

Between the 710fwy and 605fwy starting Sept 17th , as crews begin Segment 3 Express Lanes work toward Studebaker Road near Norwalk, According to a Metro project notice.

Metro said. The September closures are needed to restripe lanes and set up work zones for upcoming construction. Corresponding ramps will close with freeway segments, the notice said.


The scheduled nights include eastbound closures Sept 17th (710 to Lakewood BLVD exit) Sept 18th (Lakewood to Bellflower exits) and Sept 21-22 (Bellflower to the 605), generally with HOV and inside lane closures from 8pm and full closures from midnight to 5am. Westbound closures are listed for Sept 24th (605 to Lakewood ) and Sept 25th (Lakewood to Garfield Ave) with full closures roughly midnight to 4 or 5am, Metro said.


My Take: Plan ahead if you regularly commute the 105fwy during these overnight and weekend closures. As usual Metro says the Express Lanes will ease congestion and speed up trips. A lot of us who actually sit in that traffic aren't so sure. New toll lanes can feel like they just shuffle the mess around, even if Metro disagrees and the  2029 full build still sounds far off.

But to be fair I can't be all negative. L.A. freeways need real upgrades, and if this project eventually delivers more reliable lanes and puts the toll money back to the corridor- that matters. Hoping the 105 gets something that actually helps the people who live next to it, not just a new set of dates on a Power Point.

LAX service worker and Lennox man charged after fentanyl found in airport bathroom

By The Southbound 105 LOS ANGELES — An employee of a service provider at Los Angeles International Airport and another Lennox resident have been charged in a federal criminal complaint with possessing about 11 kilograms (24.3 pounds) of fentanyl found in an airport bathroom and intended for transport on a Minnesota-bound flight, Argonaut News reported, citing a Justice Department announcement. Miguel Angel Tuz-Noh, 24, of Lennox, who works at LAX, and Anthony Olvera, 23, also of Lennox, are charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, according to Argonaut News. Both defendants were arrested Aug. 19 and made their initial appearances Aug. 21 in U.S. District Court in downtown Los Angeles, the newspaper reported. A federal magistrate judge ordered each released on $10,000 bond. Their arraignments are scheduled for Sept. 17, according to Argonaut News.
