LAX Runway 6L-24R to close 14 hours Saturday for routine maintenance

LAWA says it will minimize the taxiway closures to reduce effects on traffic flow. It has announced similar 14-hour closures of the same runway on other Saturdays this year.

One of the runways on the north side of Los Angeles International Airport will be out of service for most of the day Saturday for maintenance, according to Los Angeles World Airports.

The details

Runway 6L-24R will close on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, for 14 hours, beginning at 12:30 a.m. PDT and reopening at 2:30 p.m. PDT, LAWA said in an operations advisory dated Tuesday, Oct. 13. The agency said the closure supports "routine maintenance activity."

The advisory also says some associated taxiway closures are planned, but that their durations "will be minimized to reduce impacts to traffic flow." LAWA did not describe the specific work or name the taxiways.

Notices to pilots

LAWA said Notices to Airmen, known as NOTAMs, would be issued 72 hours before the closure, and it asked airport operations, technical operations and flight operations departments to plan accordingly. An FAA NOTAM for LAX, numbered 10/086, lists the same window in Coordinated Universal Time, 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. UTC on Oct. 17, which converts to 12:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Pacific time.

A third-party NOTAM tracker, SkyReady, also lists a separate and shorter closure of the parallel Runway 6R-24L from 12:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. Pacific time that day. LAWA's advisory does not mention it.

A recurring pattern

This is not the first closure of its kind. LAWA's news release list for 2026 shows 14-hour closures of Runway 6L-24R for routine maintenance on Aug. 8 and Sept. 12, both Saturdays, using the same 12:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. window. The agency also announced 17-hour closures of Runway 7L-25R and Taxiway B for maintenance on Aug. 15-16 and Sept. 26-27.

The airport has not announced any flight cancellations or schedule changes tied to Saturday's work.

What travelers can do

LAWA's advisory is aimed at airlines and airport operations staff, not passengers. Travelers with Saturday flights can check their airline's app or flight status for any changes and check LAX's website for airfield and ground transportation updates. LAX's weekly construction alert, issued Oct. 9 for Oct. 11-17, also lists curbside lane restrictions at several terminals, so extra travel time to the airport may be worth building in.

What's next

  • Saturday, Oct. 17: closure begins at 12:30 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m., per LAWA.
  • Taxiway work: LAWA says associated taxiway closures will be kept as short as possible.
  • Future closures: LAWA posts operations advisories on its news release page.
